Bespoke Wedding in Lapland

Master Oh has just got back from doing a bespoke wedding in Lapland. Never having been to Lapland or indeed done such an incredibly unusual project before, he needless to say, jumped at the opportunity. Master Oh had actually been commissioned for the wedding for over a year now, but since the origami element to the wedding was the secret of the groom from the bride, we have only now been able to write about it. Master Oh’s non-origami inspiration!

Master Oh is always talking about his mentors and influences in the paper art world: the likes of the great Master Wang. In fact, he spends much of his life (when not sculpting paper art of course) lecturing on he great paper sculptors of the past five hundred years. But he rarely get’s the opportunity to give his modern, non-paper art heroes much airwave time. And yet some of these men and women have proven to be every bit as influential and resonating in his art as even his most prolific origami teacher. So, without further ado, we at Master Oh’s studio are proud to give you his top four, non-origami, modern day influences: Michael Phelps. Master Oh says: “Michael Phelps is an extraordinary example ...

A recent lecture given by Master Oh

Master Oh is constantly lecturing around the globe on the nuances and subtleties of oriental origami and paper sculpture in the generic sense. As one of the world’s foremost names in paper sculpture, his every word is received as small pearls of golden, or should I say paper, wisdom. In a recent lecture given to art students, Master Oh was asked the question: “Why paper art”. Master Oh laughed at the question… a very broad one indeed. But he then fell silent, sat down and, for two minutes paused, deep in meditative thought for two minutes. He then gave this answer to a spell bound audience: “You ask me the question: ‘why paper art’. But I shall refine your question: ‘why life’. Or another ‘Why ...

Origami- from plane to palace

Origami, the art of folding paper- sounds simple? Let’s take a look at what one can make with the art of origami, starting with the simple stuff. 1) The paper airplane! One of the few skills that I have retained from my school days, the humble paper airplane is probably anybody’s first foray into origami. A4 paper, fold it in half, fold the corners, then again to make the jet like shape, finally fold the wings out and voila! You have your flying machine. ...
